John Murtari was just notified by staff at the Onondaga County Jail in
Syracuse that his release date was just changed from Dec. 1st to
Dec. 6th due to a loss of 5 days of "good time." This came as quite a
surprise to John since up to last week the jail had said his release
date was Dec. 1st.

It appears the Jamesville Correctional Facility, where John originally
reported for his sentence, made the update today. When John reported
to Jamesville back in July he began his campaign of non-cooperation
and had to be carried for processing during the first day. He was
later moved to the Onondaga County Jail for medical care and his tube
feedings. He served some punitive "lock-in" time. John thought any
loss of good time was either already reflected in his release date or
suspended. It appears he was mistaken.

As you can imagine he had plans to return to work and also had plane
tickets to leave and see his son on Dec. 7th (which makes preparation
a rush). The jail deputites told John the Commissioner of the
Jamesville Correctional Facility has the authority to restore all the
"good time" and they suggested John write him. Others suggested that
letters from other people would also help. John has already written a
letter asking for the five days to be restored. He hates to again
inconvenience the many of you who have been so supportive during this
time. Many of you have already written on multiple occasions to the
judge in John's case.

He knows many of you are busy because of the Thanksgiving holiday, but
he would appreciate any brief letter you may be able to write or fax
to Comissioner Cowin. Please be polite, the facility is well within
its rights to withold good time, but please ask for his mercy in
restoring the good time. John has been a model prisoner since the
original incidents occurred back in July. You can contact the
Commissioner using the information below, please no phone calls.

Commissioner Timothy H. Cowin
